July the 3rd has been an important date for AMS: the AMS Asia Payload Operations Control Center has been inaugurated at CSIST premises in Taiwan. The Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou, together with government authorities attended the event.

The opening ceremony took place at 10:30 a.m.: Professor Sadakazu Haino (formerly INFN-Perugia), newly appointed professor at the National Central University Center for Space Research of Taiwan, opened the cerimony with a review on the status of the research on Cosmic Rays.
The seminar was followed by the talks of Professor S.C. Lee, Professor S. Ting, and Mr. Gerstenmaier. All recognized the importance the new Taiwanese POCC to ensure safe operation of AMS payload spectrometer during the coming 10 years.

In addition to complementing the CERN POCC, Asia POCC will also provide night control shifts.

After nearly one year of preparation, the final checkout of the new POCC in Taiwan was performed mid June. The day following the inauguration the Asia POCC smoothly began regular operations, while the AMS detector was collecting the 19th billions event.
