CANISTER’S DAY

March 19th, 2011
March 15th was the long Canister day: AMS-02 was woken up by NASA people at 2:30 a.m. for the final check out.

Then operations started at 8 o’clock: AMS-02 was hanged to the bridge crane and moved to the Weight & Center of Gravity Check stand, where it was finally weighed: 6,917.74 kg.

The loading into the Canister was the last operation performed and the first ever to be entirely photographed: the pictures below are unique! (Many thanks to our photographer, Michele Famiglietti)

The picture above is not a special effect: the Shuttle bay and, consequently, the Canister are really huge.
Yesterday, 18th March, the Canister has been rotated to the vertical position and it is now ready for the final lift to the launch pad, scheduled for the evening of Monday, the 21st of March.
