One month after the terrible attack to his wife Gabrielle Gifford, Commander Mark Kelly announced his decision to resume training for the STS-134 Mission on February 7th. “I am looking forward to rejoining my STS-134 crew members and finishing our training for the mission”, Kelly said. “We have been preparing for more than 18 months, and we will be ready to deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) to the International Space Station and complete the other objectives of the flight. I appreciate the confidence that my NASA management has in me and the rest of my space shuttle crew”.

The AMS Collaboration is deeply grateful to Mark for his renewed commitment to the STS-134 mission: we all are proud he will command this mission which is so uniquely important for the delivery of the AMS-02 payload on the ISS where it will start its long science run. We join our thoughts and prayers for the fast and full recovery of Gabby at the rehabilitation facility: we look at the return of Mark to the STS-134 mission training as a tribute to her incredible courage and strength.
